            Wafer design Approach for Safety Increasing in worst case Situations minimizing joints (WASIS)


This is a collaborative project between 11 European organisations located across 10 different countries, working together to manufacture a “More Affordable, Safer, Cleaner and Quieter” aircraft. The anticipated aircraft for this project is a medium sized, general aviation pressurised jet with a diameter not exceeding 3m.

The main objective of this project is the development of a composite fuselage structure based on the lattice stiffening concept and optimizing geometrical and mass properties of transition zones of fuselage structural joints. The material to be utilised in order to develop an all-composite fuselage structure is carbon fibre impregnated with an epoxy resin. Integrated components and joints were designed, specimens and prototypes were produced so far and fully representative fuselage sections are being manufactured for final testing and validation.

WASIS consortium is comprised of 11 partners who bring invaluable knowledge and experience to this project. The partners specialise in different fields ranging from research and processing to aircraft design and manufacture.
